You may have noticed some little red additions to the Alyeska Ski Patrol, and we’re not referring to our new jackets. When JB bought the resort, we approached management about adding dogs to our avalanche response tool bag.
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers patrol the mountain with their handlers, Shane Patrick and Brian McGorry. These small retrievers with their distinctive red coats and fox-like markings were chosen for their intelligence, trainability, and compact size which aids in easy transport on ski lifts, snow machines, and…..on backpacks. These highly trained dog teams are yet another resource of the Alyeska Snow Safety and Ski Patrol.
Please consider supporting the dog program by attending one of our fundraising events at Winterfest. This includes; the inaugural Ski Patrol Auction (buy an early morning ride with a ski patroller), the “Beacon & Eggs” Snow Safety presentation and beacon competition, or the raffle of a new pair of K2 Pontoons. All this kicks off Friday the 5th of February at the Sitzmark, check out the events link for details!
