First Annual Alyeska Mountain Bike Festival

The folks in Alaska love to ride bikes and I can’t say I blame them. With breath-taking views literally around every corner, Alaska is one of the best places to ride a bike whether it be road, cross-country, single track or downhill. The Alyeska Bike Park has embraced the downhill world with 40+ names trails accessed by three different lifts. There has been an increase of ridership every year over the past three years. We’re seeing local bike shops starting to carry more downhill specific models and we’re seeing the community embrace a new activity.

IMG_0036 The ridership is becoming more diverse as well. The first couple of years saw a niche group of riders who were experienced bikers. Over the last couple years these riders are still returning but with the development of more beginner trails, refined lessons, and free tours more beginner/intermediate bikers have come out to enjoy the bike park.

What better way to celebrate a successful year than with a festival?! September 20 – 22 will mark the first annual Mountain Bike Festival at Alyeska Resort and offer FREE events, bike park tours and live music. Centered around the Sitzmark (except for Pond Crossing) the events will be open to all ages. The music begins at 7:30 with James Dalton and continues onward into the night with Alaska’s favorite jam band The Photonz.
