Where were you on New Year’s 2013? You may be asked this question someday. If you’re lucky your answer will be, “I was at Alyeska Resort!” With almost 100″ of new snow over the past few days and Ski Patrol opening more terrain this New Year’s is going to be great. Most people in our society have a New Year’s resolution, a USA Today poll found that the number one resolution is to exercise more. Forget about the tread mill, the best thing for you is skiing, and lots of it. Not only will you be getting more exercise you’ll be having a blast doing it! Fresh air, fresh snow and a beautiful view. Need I say more?
But, before you get into your New Year’s resolution it’s time to party. Everyone loves a good New Year’s party, the energy, the champagne, tons of people pretending to know the lyrics to Auld Lang Syne, and this year at Alyeska Resort is going to be a party. Starting with a torch light parade. This is a skiing tradition. 350 people meet at the top of Ted’s Express, light up road flares and ski down in a zigzag line while onlookers cheer, take photos and take in the sight. Most every ski resort in the USA does a version of this and Alyeska has one too. It’s always a huge hit with the crowd and the skiers and riders have a pretty good time as well. Directly after the parade, Alyeska will be putting on a firework spectacle right on the slopes. Enjoy the explosions and loud bangs in the fresh mountain air. All events start at 8 PM.
The party starts at 10 PM with Nervis Rex at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill. These guys are great and they will be ringing in the new year with their high-energy ska, party music. This show is sure to be packed so show up early. The party will be rocking until 2 AM, stop by, bring a date and grab some champagne.
