After a week or so of high pressure the precip moved back in to Girdwood and dropped about 6″ of fresh snow on Alyeska Resort bringing our 2012/13 season snowfall total up to 641″, well on our way to reaching the average of 650″. The 2011/12 season was one of the snowiest on record with 978″ of snow falling that season. Although it is unlikely we’ll reach that number this season keep this fact in mind. Most resorts in the Rockie mountains in the lower 48 average 500″ on a good year.
Currently, the skiing and riding has been fantastic! The snow is soft all the way from the top of 6 to the base. Christmas chute is skiing phenomenally and all lines leading into the North Face are skiing the best they have been all year! Besides expert only terrain it’s important to share that all terrain has been skiing great! The best part of Spring is still to come and that’s when the snow starts to corn up and people can enjoy the sunshine skiing in long-sleeve shirts and grill out at the nest on Eagle Rock. Lift hours will change to 11a – 6p starting April 1, 2013.
